Discipleship Evangelism Graduation 2008

Today the students of the 2008 Discipleship Evangelism class graduated. This is a significant event for the graduates as well for their families. The certificates presented to them represent a number of things. First and foremost it represents their desire to go forth, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and help make other disciples. It represents their persistence because they had to press forward, write the term papers, attend class on a regular basis and even engage in challenging role plays with the entire class watching. The purpose of the role plays was to expose the students to various situations, personalites and obstacles that they may face while being a witness for Jesus Christ. In a nutshell, the certificate represents their committment to learning how to confidently share the need for Jesus Christ with others as well as proving that they can do it.

Pastor Rev. Cornelius Battle, shown below, hosted the graduation service at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, NC.

Free Easter Cookout – Changing A Generation Outreach Ministries

(Note: There is a link to the full gallery of pictures at the end of this entry)

On March 24, 2008 Changing A Generation Outreach Ministries hosted a free Easter Cookout for the community of Durham. Rev. Rodney Green heads up this ministry.

The main mission is to supply life’s essentials to the needy, provide shelter for the homeless and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They help people  through the entire year not just on holidays.

The King James Bible states the following:

Matthew 25:34-40 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Rev. Dr. Wesley Elam, Sr., Pastor of North East Baptist Church, helped to kick off the event by blessing the food.

Pastor Elam was supported by Roland Perry – Minister of Music, Mrs. Graham and other NEBC members.

A multitude of people came out to take part in this event. The lines seemed to continue without end. Coleman’s Catering provided the food for this occasion. There was a large grill preparing hotdogs and hamburgers to perfection. From within the red trailer Mr. Coleman served fried fish dinners.

There were activities for the children and the adults had a brief chance to relax.(Disclaimer:North East Baptist Church is not an endorser of Easter egg hunts. However, we do stand behind sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, helping the community and feeding people in need.)

By the end of the day the ministry had fed many hungry mouths. The children were excited and the picture below helps to convey the appreciation that many families felt.

A lot of people give to large charities. Unlike large national charities you can drive up on any day and see how your donations are helping people in need.

The Guthrie Children

I had the chance to capture some portraits of the Guthrie children. This was one family that had it all together from the coordinated outfits down to how they responded to suggestions. We had our fair share of laughs along the way but in the end we captured memories that will last for generations.

Photos: Messiah in the Passover Presentation

On March 13, 2008 North East Baptist Church welcomed Neriyah Arabov from Chosen People Ministries to explain the deeper meanings behind the Passover and of the Communion Table. Here is an excerpt from the announcement in the bulletin.

“Presented from a table rather than from the pulpit, a powerful visual and oral message conveys Israel’s freedom from slavery in Egypt and redemption of individuals from the bondage of sins through the atoning work of Jesus. Neriyah Arabov, of the internationally established Chosen People Ministries, is the featured presenter.”

Below are a few pictures from the presentation but the entire gallery of pictures may be viewed by clicking the link further down.

Discipleship Training at North East Baptist Church 2008

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Matthew 28: 16 – 20

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

ALL Christians are called to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  One obstacle to why some don’t is simply because they haven’t been taught  how to lead someone to Christ.  The discipleship training class teaches Christians how to lead a lost soul to Christ by explaining in easy to understand steps why all of us need Jesus Christ.

North East Baptist Church in Durham, NC,  where the pastor is Dr. Wesley Elam, Sr.,  provides a yearly class for Christians that want to feel confident about how to lead a lost soul to Christ.

In the photo below we see Minister Estella Feaster training and lecturing the students.

After a demanding six weeks of studying, writing term papers, participating in role playing and counseling I was able to catch a small glimpse of the students taking the final exam.  Yes, a test is administered to make sure that the students understand the witnessing process and have committed to memory several key scriptures from the bible. A student must pass the exam before they are allowed to graduate as a trained discipleship counselor.

Below are a few pictures of students in careful thought as they take their exams.
